GRADUATE CLINICAL INTERNS

Accessible Therapy at The Art Room

Want therapy that feels like a fit, but the cost has been getting in the way?

Beginning this fall and winter, The Art Room will offer a limited number of lower-cost therapy openings with our graduate clinical interns.

Our interns work within the same neuro-affirming, trauma-effective, creative environment that defines The Art Room while receiving ongoing clinical supervision and support.

This may be a good option if you have wanted to start therapy here, but our standard session fee hasn't felt financially sustainable.

Sliding-scale rates • Supervised care • Limited fall + winter openings • In-person in Hagerstown and virtual across Maryland.

So what does working with a therapy intern actually mean?

A clinical intern is a graduate-level therapist-in-training completing supervised clinical experience as part of their professional education.

They are still learning, and we think it is important to be transparent about that.

They also receive regular clinical supervision, consultation, feedback, and support as they develop their work with clients.

Your sessions are still your sessions. Your supervisor is not sitting in the room with you. Instead, supervision happens behind the scenes to help the intern think carefully about treatment, ethics, clinical decision-making, and how to support you well.

You can still expect care that is:

  • relational and collaborative

  • neuro-affirming

  • trauma-effective

  • creative and flexible

  • grounded in your needs, identity, and lived experience

  • supported by ongoing clinical supervision

A more accessible fee

Intern sessions are offered at a reduced sliding-scale rate to make therapy more financially accessible.

Fresh training + close supervision

Interns are actively immersed in graduate education while receiving ongoing supervision from experienced clinicians.

The Art Room approach

Interns are brought into the culture and clinical values of our practice; creative, relational, neuro-affirming, trauma-effective, and shame-free.

Lower-cost does not mean a different version of who we are.

Therapy with an intern can still make room for talking, artmaking, reflection, nervous-system awareness, identity exploration, emotional regulation, and understanding the patterns that have helped you survive.

You do not need to be “good at art.”

You do not need to know exactly what you want to work on.

And you do not need to arrive with a perfectly organized story.

The goal is still the same: helping you better understand your inner world and build ways of living, connecting, and coping that fit you more honestly.

Sessions begin at $50, with a sliding-scale option based on financial need.

Intern therapy is offered at a lower private-pay rate. Availability at each fee level is limited.

We will talk openly about the fee before scheduling so you know exactly what to expect.
